INCREASING SAFETY OF RAILFREIGHT

Camco Technologies introduces automated brakeshoe wear & tear detection. Worn or missing brake shoes can affect the performance and function of the brake system impacting braking force, stopping or braking distance.

Worn brake blocks can also increase wear and tear of the wheel thread. The deformation of the train wheel could lead to derailment and cause serious consequences.

AI-DRIVEN RAIL BLOCK WEAR DETECTION

Camco Technologies AI brake-shoe wear & tear system includes adapted camera hardware with embedded image analysis software trained to detect brake-shoe thickness in real time and at different speeds. Neural networks have also been trained to detect missing brake blocks.

CAMCO RAIL OCR PORTAL

The automated brake shoe wear & tear application is an optional feature available for the Camco rail OCR portal. The captured data is automatically linked to the wagon number. This allows pin-pointing worn brake blocks and corresponding rail wagons in the operator’s Train Gate Operator application.

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

Automated brake shoe checks are possible 24/7 and problems red-flagged even before periodic visual inspection by maintenance staff. The information accuracy and instant data availability improve preventive maintenance management and contribute to railroad safety.

Camco Technologies is proud to join the Terminal Industry Committee 4.0 (TIC 4.0) initiative with the aim of helping promoting, defining and adopting standards that will enable cargo handling industry to embrace the 4th industrial revolution.

Efficiency of cargo handling operations is largely dependent on business intelligence, analytics and data related to operations.

At present, interfacing various equipment and systems is complex, costly and risky due to the absence of a common data language. The few automated container terminals operating today are closed systems that have been custom-designed with high costs.

Rapid advances in information technology and in particular digitization, have created new possibilities for the cargo handling industry, that could improve processes by connecting all equipment and systems in real time, thus enabling seamless data exchanges.

Under these new conditions, future advanced solutions could be achieved with less risk, at a lower cost and with a shorter lead time. Any type of equipment will have the ability to connect to universal open platforms.

The key enabling factor for the cargo handling industry to take full advantage of these technological advances is to rapidly develop and adopt commonly agreed industry standards that will allow objective comparisons of equipment/systems specifications and define the format and protocols for electronic data exchanges.

The Terminal Industry Committee 4.0 (TIC 4.0) initiative aims to bring together representative companies from both the Terminal Operators industry and Port Equipment Manufacturers and Suppliers to collectively work on the elaboration of such standards.

The TIC 4.0 initiative has been endorsed by the Federation of European Private Port Companies and Terminals (FEPORT) and of the Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA).

TIC4.0 CEO Frank Kho, president Boris Wenzel, and member of the executive council Norbert Klettner:We are very happy and proud of having within TIC4.0 our new members Camco Technologies and INFORM GmbH – Optimization Software, reference solution providers for the port terminal industry. Our warm welcome to them! We are looking forward to continuing our journey towards the standardization of port terminal processes and the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies”

Jan Bossens, CEO Camco Technologies: “We are proud getting on board. Even being in the business for more than 20 years, we still experience a lot of confusion and misunderstandings when defining project scopes, in project execution and even during SLA. We are very happy with the TIC4.0 initiative and are keen to help defining a common language  facilitating inter-operatibility of all stakeholders”.

Acknowledgement of export succes story

June 14th, we have been nominated for the prestigious award by Flanders Investment & Trade, or FIT, Flanders’ export agency. Each year the “Leeuw van de Export” is awarded to a company excelling in innovation and exporting the majority of its turnover to companies abroad. Camco Technologies had been awarded the Young Exporter award, also by the Flemish export agency FIY and back in 2005, just 5 years after its creation. Yesterday, FIT announced our nomination in the category of established businesses.

Still some hurdles to cope, since 2 other contesters challenge us to get the final award. The nomination is already a nice reward for the hard-working Camco Technologies staff who have been challenged also by COVID-19, but managed to keep on delivering clients expectations throughout the globe!

2000 kiosk serving in over 250 terminals across the globe.

On May 26th, we have celebrated a milestone in the Camco Technologies history with our 2000th kiosk being shipped. Our client Genesee & Wyoming in Leeds, UK will unbox the new kiosk. Our very first kiosk was shipped in 2005. It was to become a cornerstone in the terminal gate automation process immediatly. With truck ID cards, biometric registration, Voice over IP becoming available, truck OCR portal integration, all the elements for automated gate processes came together. The time and labour consuming process of truck visit registration, validation and related paper hassle, was prone to human error and incurred safety risks for gate clerks manoeuvring between trucks. Terminal access also became much more secure with better control of in-and outgoing traffic.

Proud of our craftsmen!

We have approx 45 trained workes in our workshop, making components on state-of-the-art machinery, assembling, testing, and shipping our camera portal and kiosk systems. They have continued operating from our head-office production facility throughout the pandemic, taking into account social distancing as well as so many other safety measures. Other departments were working remote. Our production heroes deserve all our congratulions. We are extremely grateful for their devotion in hard times! That is why we had also the birthday cake! A shared moment, split in COVID groups of max 10. Looking forward to a post-covid full monthy parthy!
