ITV identification & alignment

In waterside operations, the interaction between crane and truck during container pickup has an effect on the efficiency. If an internal terminal vehicle (ITV) arrives unidentified or misaligned, the crane must pause — and even short pauses accumulate across the vessel window.

The ITV Identification & Alignment System ensures every truck is recognized and positioned correctly.

Precise truck positioning under the spreader

ITV’s keep the yard in motion. Camco’s RTLS solution allows full auto job stepping for ITV’s by use of an in-cab vehicle mounted terminal. In the yard location is based on GNSS in combination with PLC data from the RTG/RMG or ASC and location data of those CHE’s. PLC data gives spreader position as well as twistlock information. Only when location and ITV-ID maps with the TOS job, Camco’s RTLS system will enable the twist locks. This way stack stowing errors are impossible.

Under the crane Camco ‘s RTLS UWB location technology is used as GNNS system doesn’t work under cranes or nearby vessels. Our UWB technology has enough accuracy to allign the ITV before the crane drops the container. The alignment system is a small LED display in the cabine. Also here we have full auto job stepping, only when location and alignment is correct, the twistlocks are enabled and the container can be dropped.

The backend software behind our RTLS system is CHEOPS but the user interface is fully supported by the BRIDGE, including a 2D map with life position of all the moving CHE’s including the ITV’s.

Precision through sensor fusion

We track the vehicle, not only the container.

  • GNSS provides yard-wide positioning
  • UWB location system refines the last meters under the crane with less then 5cm accuracy

At this level of precision:

  • The driver aligns once and stops
  • The spreader can engage immediately
  • No crane/truck adjustment is required during pickup

Operational effect

  • Faster pick-up and set-down under the crane
  • Less variation between drivers
  • Smoother vessel workflow during peak shifts
  • Reduced stress in the crane interface zone
  • One technology solving to processes
  • No checker under the crane needed

Small delays disappear, and the quay moves more predictably.

Alternative

If ITV alignment is not needed, Camco supports ITB roofnumber identification under the STS crane. Cameras on the Portal beams scans the area under the crane and reports to the TOS the ITV idenbtication and lane number.

Part of THE BRIDGE

The system runs within THE BRIDGE, where identity, positioning, job state and traceability come together. Everything is visible on a real time 2D map including the assigned jobs.
