Beibu Gulf Port – Qinzhou, China

November 13, 2023

In March, Camco Technologies successfully completed its installation work at Beibu Gulf Port in Qinzhou, China. This achievement follows the company’s selection in December 2020 for the initial phase of STS crane and gate automation at the fully automated Beibu Gulf Port terminal. Since then, Camco has played a key role in advancing automation, enhancing the terminal’s operational efficiency and overall capacity.

Following the successful completion of phase 1, which included deploying four OCR gate portals and five STS crane BoxCatcher systems, Camco secured the phase 2 crane and gate automation project. Under the new contract, two additional truck OCR portals have been added to the existing four. Additionally, seven new STS cranes are now part of the automated system.

Advanced Camera Systems for Precision

Each STS crane features a pair of camera systems: two BoxCatcher systems register all container movements as they are hoisted through the crane’s frontal legs, while platform cameras capture container movements onto the platform. Additionally, a third set of cameras monitors the Internal Transport Vehicle (ITV) carrying the container.

Beibu Gulf Port: Maintaining Optimal Performance

To ensure optimal performance in maritime conditions, the BoxCatcher system features the BoxCatcher Washing Station. Given the challenges of salt and dust, similar to those faced by vehicles, the Washing Station cleans the BoxCatcher screens at regular, configurable intervals.
