Adani-built Vizhinjam International Seaport welcomes first mothership

16 July 2024

On Friday, July 2024, the Vizhinjam International Seaport was ceremoniously inaugurated, marking a significant milestone in the aspirations of Kerala, India. As India's inaugural deep-water container transshipment port, Vizhinjam boasts cutting-edge infrastructure designed to accommodate the largest motherships currently in operation, addressing India’s growing container transshipment demands.

The grand opening featured the maiden call of the San Fernando mothership by Maersk, attended by local and national dignitaries alongside international guests. Phase 1 of Vizhinjam Port offers an initial capacity of handling 1 million TEUs annually, with plans to expand to 3 million TEUs per year in the near future. The development also includes a modern fishing harbor, seafood park, community skill park, bunkering facilities, an outer ring road, industrial corridor, and amenities for cruise tourism.

Beginning in 2016 through a public-private partnership, the construction of Vizhinjam Port aims for completion by 2028-2029. Camco Technologies has played a pivotal role as the lead technology partner since inception. Our contributions include a comprehensive auto gate system, eight STS crane BoxCatcher systems, an RTLS yard automation system, a state-of-the-art Real Time Digital Twin with a 20 m² overview display, and THE BRIDGE unified platform, ensuring optimal visibility and management of the entire container terminal.
